
Biography
Known for her lush tone and vibrant stage presence, mezzo-soprano Kristin Gornstein has a varied opera repertoire, and has sung such roles as Hansel in
Hansel in Gretel, Maria in
West Side Story, Vixen Sharp-Ears in Janacek’s
Cunning Little Vixen, and Kitty Hart in Jake Heggie’s
Dead Man Walking. She has performed with the Indianapolis Opera, Colorado Light Opera, the Loveland Opera Theatre and Denver's Empire Lyric Players.
Equally at home with concert repertoire, she has been a guest artist with groups such as the
Colorado Mahlerfest,
Pendulum New Music,
Fusion Chamber,
The Indianapolis Arts Chorale, and has sung Handel’s
Messiah throughout the United States. In collaboration with pianist Chuck Dillard, Kristin regularly performs Messiaen's
Poèmes Pour Mi. Kristin recently performed in the culminating concert of the week-long tribute to George Crumb at the University of Colorado.
This summer she will be travelling to Princeton, New Jersey to participate in Opera New Jersey's Summer season as a Studio Artist, singing in both
Faust and
Don Pasquale, as well as performing in the opera scenes concert, "Shakespeare in Opera". Originally from Indiana, Kristin will be returning to Indianapolis for the 2010-2011 season to be a part of Indianapolis Opera's Young Artist Ensemble where she will tour Indiana performing several shows, including
La fille du regiment and
The Mikado. She will also be singing the role of Annina in Indianapolis Opera's mainstage production of La Traviata.
